Asian ginseng – Panax Ginseng

Once upon a time, there was a plant more valuable than gold. Ginseng has always been a symbol of health and a long life. In the past, the root was reserved only for kings, emperors and nobles. Fortunately, nowadays everyone can use the medicinal plant to strengthen their powers.

Fields of application

The best ginseng comes from Korea because it contains the most ginsenosides. These are the main active ingredients of the plant, along with a further 150 ingredients such as panax acid, panacen, vitamin B1 and B2, estrogenic substances, glycosides and sulfur. In their entirety, they ensure that the power root supports our physical and mental strength. The active ingredients also inhibit the inflammatory processes in the cells. For thousands of years, ginseng has been used in China as a medicinal plant to combat weakness and fatigue and to improve the recovery phase after an illness. It naturally increases performance and concentration, which is why many athletes swear by ginseng supplements. Ginseng should only be taken as a course of treatment, as it takes four to six weeks for the maximum effect to be achieved. The subsequent maintenance therapy lasts about two to three months.

Botanical characteristics

Its shape resembles the human body, which is why ginseng is called ‘human root’ in Chinese. The botanical name Panax ginseng indicates its potency: it is composed of ‘pan’ (Greek for ‘everything’) and ‘akos’ (Greek for ‘healing’). Ginseng is therefore also called a panacea. Ginseng grows only about one centimetre per year and can be harvested after six years at the earliest. That is why growing the miracle root takes a lot of time, patience and care.
