Ideally, the vaccination should be given in childhood between 2 months and 5 years of age. A booster is then given to people over the age of 65 who have not yet received a vaccination or have only been vaccinated with Pneumovax® and people with an increased risk of complications (chronic diseases such as heart failure, lung diseases, etc.). People over the age of 65 or adults at increased risk can be vaccinated at the pharmacy.
Vaccinations may only be carried out in pharmacies if a contraindication, pregnancy (except in the case of vaccinations on medical prescription), an immune deficiency and an autoimmune disease have been ruled out.
